Today I have a free day to do whatever I choose – yay! 🙂
There is a CD box set about gratitude that I’ve really wanted to listen to for sometime now. But as I thought of my day, I started to create a list of not-so-fun tasks that I could get done.
While my mind feverishly worked on that not-so-fun list, a question arose.
“Why would I fill my day with a list of not-so-fun things when my truest heart’s desire is to curl up on the couch with some hot tea and listen to something that could nourish my soul and improve my life!?!
The answer came in the form of another question. “Will you allow yourself that much joy?”
Creating free days is a choice I’ve made with the intention of creating the life of my dreams. And the thought of living a lifestyle in which I could indulge in reading and listening to the works of incredible authors and then share what I’ve learned through my blog blew my mind. This might not be your cup of tea, but to me, it is an amazing day and to think of having these amazing days on a regular basis was apparently too much for me to handle. For you, it may be teaching a class, staying at home with your children instead of working, indulging in a day or a week of relaxation with your sweetie…
The point is, sometimes it can be a challenge to tolerate increasing amounts of joy. The next time you have an opportunity to experience more joy, notice your response. Do you embrace the opportunity or do you come up with excuses to sabotage the possibility? You might be surprised at your reaction. Feel free to share you experiences — I’d love to hear from you.
You may be wondering whether I got that not-so-fun list of to dos done or whether I sat down and listened to those CDs. After realizing that I was about to sabotage the very type of day I longed to create, I made a choice to put on the kettle, make some tea, grab a blanket and listen to my CDs with pen and paper in hand. YAY! Dream day LIVED!
