I’m back after suffering from a severe case of “not good enough” syndrome.
You may have noticed I removed all my blog entries and videos for a short time. I had convinced myself that my videos were of poor quality and would hinder any real business progress and perhaps, limit partnership opportunities. I told myself that I needed to do a better version and while I was at, it turn it into a course because after all, a blog just wasn’t good enough — I needed to make it into something bigger and better like a course. So after being taken down that side street by my ego, I am back again, all the wiser to its devious workings. Sneaky, sneaky ego. 🙂
I want to share this experience with you because I think it is completely normal to take a leap forward and then take a step back. I don’t think anyone charges forward and stays full speed ahead forever, especially when they are in new and uncharted territory. If you can do that, then bravo, kudos to you! That is amazing! For the rest of us, I think it is pretty typical and part of a normal evolutionary process to feel like we’ve slipped back a little after taking a leap forward. And I think it is easy to be hard on ourselves when we perceive that “backwards” step as being a failure or a bad thing. I feel that the backwards steps are critically important to embrace rather than judge and criticize. If we resist this phase and indulge in criticism, it can spiral us down and keep us stuck.
I would love to hear about your leaps forward and your steps backwards. And please email me, especially if you’re feeling stuck. Just the act of sharing can help to move you forward.
